– University teams have been working for weeks to prepare a comprehensive program to launch Sustainability Week
The Gulf University is putting the finishing touches in preparation for the launch of the second edition of Sustainability Week 2025, which begins on Sunday, November 16 and continues until Thursday, November 20, with the participation of a number of academic figures, experts and speakers from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Arab and international countries, in addition to a wide attendance of students and those interested in environmental and development work, at The Art Hotel in the Amwaj area.
University President, Professor Muhannad Al-Firas, confirmed that the university has completed most of the arrangements for the opening ceremony and conference sessions, indicating that the current edition will carry a noticeable expansion in programs, scientific content, and institutional and student participation.
Professor Al-Farras said, “The university teams have been working for weeks to prepare a comprehensive program to launch Sustainability Week, which includes an opening ceremony that reflects the university’s vision and mission in promoting a culture of sustainability, in addition to providing an expanded visual presentation of our goals and initiatives, and announcing a number of specific projects that will be officially launched during this event.”
He explained that the week will witness the inauguration of the International Sustainability Conference 2025 on its first day, where the scientific sessions will begin immediately after the official opening.
He added that the conference this year will host an elite group of experts in the fields of circular economy, green digital transformation, resource management, sustainable education, and other related topics, stressing that this diversity is consistent with the university’s vision of providing a comprehensive scientific platform that serves researchers, decision-makers, and students alike.
The University President indicated that the conference sessions were distributed to include research papers, applied studies, and technical presentations, in addition to discussion panels bringing together specialists from academic institutions, government agencies, and private companies from inside and outside Bahrain, with the aim of enhancing the exchange of experiences and building long-term partnerships in the areas of sustainability.
Regarding the role of students in the organization, Al-Faras said, “We consider students’ participation to be a key factor in the success of Sustainability Week, and therefore they were involved in all stages of preparation, starting with the logistical organization, through managing the interactive workshops, all the way to participating in the scientific sessions and the accompanying exhibition.”
He explained that the university was keen to train student teams specialized in media, documentary and technical aspects, which gave them a real opportunity to acquire field skills that enhance their academic and professional capabilities.
Regarding the accompanying exhibition, Professor Al-Farras confirmed that it will be one of the most prominent events of the week, as it will include pavilions for government agencies, civil society organizations, and companies from the private sector, in addition to innovative student projects that were selected based on standards of quality and scientific impact.
He said, “This year’s exhibition will be an interactive space that allows visitors to learn about innovative technologies in clean energy and environmental solutions, in addition to research initiatives and student works that provide new visions to enhance sustainability.”
He pointed out that the university has prepared an integrated logistical plan that includes equipping the halls according to environmentally friendly standards, providing energy-efficient lighting systems, waste sorting stations, and guided paths to enhance awareness among visitors.
He added, “We are committed to ensuring that the university’s facilities reflect the values of sustainability that we promote, and therefore a set of infrastructure modifications have been implemented in preparation for this event, so that the experience will be a practical and inspiring model for students and visitors.”
Professor Al-Farras concluded by saying, “Sustainability Week 2025 represents an important milestone in the Gulf University’s journey, and we look forward to this edition contributing to expanding the circle of environmental awareness, and launching institutional initiatives and research projects whose effects will continue beyond the event, thus enhancing the university’s role in serving national and regional development.”
