Engineer Hassan Al-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, inaugurated the activities of the ninth session of the international exhibition “Destination Africa”, organized by the Egyptian Exporters Association – Expolink, in cooperation with the export councils for ready-made garments, textiles and home furnishings, which was held on November 12 and 13 with wide participation from Egyptian and African companies specialized in the relevant sectors, in the presence of Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, Major General Essam El-Naggar, Chairman of the General Authority for Export Control. and Imports, Minister Plenipotentiary for Trade Essam El-Naggar, Chairman of the Egyptian General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, and Mr. Mohamed Qassem, Chairman of the Egyptian Exporters Association – Expolink
The minister said that the government is working to create an attractive investment environment for the textile, ready-made clothing and home furnishings industry sector, noting that this sector represents one of the basic pillars of the national economy because of its role in promoting exports and increasing the added value of Egyptian products.
Export industrial bases
The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade confirmed in press statements during his tour of the exhibition that export represents the future of the Egyptian economy, explaining that the “Destination Africa” exhibition in its ninth edition reflects the state’s tendency to build strong export industrial bases based on the competitive advantage that Egypt possesses, especially in the ready-made garments, textiles and furnishings sector, which is targeted to triple its exports by 2030.
He added that the African market represents a strategic priority, as the state is working to establish logistical zones, shipping and aviation lines to support trade movement, while following up on issues related to the rules of origin to open African markets to Egyptian products and enhance economic cooperation with the continent.
Textile and clothing sector
For his part, Mohamed Qassem, President of the Egyptian Exporters Association – Expolink, said that organizing the ninth session of the Destination Africa exhibition reflects the confidence of international partners in the capabilities of the Egyptian industry, and confirms Egypt’s position as a major regional hub for trade in the textile and clothing sector. He pointed out that the exhibition this year is witnessing a remarkable presence from African and international companies looking for production and supply partnerships, at a time when the map of global supply chains is changing, which opens broad horizons for Egyptian exporters.
The exhibition is being held this year as part of the state’s efforts to expand the volume of industrial exports and enhance the access of Egyptian products to African and international markets. “Destination Africa” is considered a pivotal platform for exchanging experiences and linking production chains in the textile sector on the continent, as it allows direct meetings (B2B) between exporters and international buyers, which enhances Egyptian exports and opens new areas for attracting investments to the industrial sector.
