The General Administration of Environmental Affairs in Aswan continued planting a group of shade trees inside a number of schools in cooperation with the Directorate of Education, and with voluntary participation from the Umm Habiba Foundation.
This came within the framework of implementing the fourth phase of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative to plant “100 million trees,” and under the patronage and follow-up of Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, and based on the directives of Major General Dr. Ismail Kamal, Governor of Aswan.
For his part, Dr. Ismail Kamal, Governor of Aswan, confirmed that the efforts made to implement the presidential initiative to plant “100 million trees” in its various stages reflect the commitment and interest of all governorate agencies to implement the new republic’s strategy in order to confront climate change and improve the quality of life for citizens by working to provide a clean, green, and sustainable environment.
He pointed out the governorate’s keenness to intensify efforts and provide all forms of support and encouragement in cooperation with civil society in order to expand the green area and achieve environmental sustainability, especially in educational institutions because of the fertile environment they represent for instilling educational values in the hearts of students, increasing their environmental awareness and consolidating the values of preserving the environment in them from a young age.
For her part, Engineer Asmaa Mahmoud, Director General of the Department of Environmental Affairs, explained that the trees were planted in the schools of Al-Ridwan Educational Complex, the Abdul Aziz Compound School, the Shajarat Al-Dur Elementary School, and also the Muhammad Abdel Moaty Primary School as a first stage, and these works are successively being implemented in the rest of the schools in various cities and centers.
She pointed out that these activities aim to provide areas of shade to protect students from high temperatures, in addition to strengthening national efforts to combat and reduce global warming, and contributing to creating a better and more sustainable educational environment.
