Jennifer Bailey, Vice President of Apple Pay technology at the American company Apple, said that the company seeks to activate digital passport technology soon, so that proving identity becomes a digital process, and will begin providing it to residents within the United States at the current stage.

The official in the giant American company added that the company seeks, through the “Apple Wallet” technology, to have the digital wallet replace everything that is in your physical wallet, so that this is not limited to bank cards, but also includes passports, ID cards, and car keys.

Apple indicated at the Worldwide Developers Conference, the annual conference it hosts to showcase the company’s latest developments, that the technology will be available with the release of the iOS 26 update, but it was not included in the update when it was launched, but Jennifer Bailey confirmed that work on the technology is still ongoing.

According to websites interested in technology, the technology will work in the same way as the Apple Pay payment feature, as the user will simply be able to tap his phone on the designated reader to authenticate the data.

Apple explained that the digital passport technology will not be a substitute for the original passport at this stage, as it will not be used for international travel, but rather for flights within the United States only.

In addition, this technology will only be available in a number of airports that will be determined later by the relevant authorities.

This is not Apple’s first step into digitalizing proof of identity; In 2022, Apple participated in launching a technology that works only in the United States, allowing the driver’s license and US state ID card to be added to the “Apple Wallet.”

But this technology has not been accepted in all states, as it is available in only 12 states, the last of which was the state of Montana, which adopted the technology in August 2025.
