Representative Muhammad Jassim Al Aliwi appreciated the directives of the wise leadership related to preserving fish wealth and solving the problems of sailors and fishermen.

He praised the efforts of Parliament Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Muslim and his support for the sailors.

He explained during his intervention in the House of Representatives session that the fishing profession is a source of livelihood for many Bahraini families, stressing in the same context the need for the government to take urgent measures to reform the conditions of fishermen and sailors, as their suffering has continued for more than 21 years.

He called on the wise leadership to allow sailors and fishermen to practice the profession until their conditions are modified and the Bahraini Nokhatha Law is implemented, stressing his support for the law on the condition that no party of the sailors or fishermen is harmed.

During his intervention on the proposal, he stated his desire (as a matter of urgency) for the government to take urgent measures to reform the conditions of fishermen and sailors, and that the fishing sector requires taking a number of measures aimed at reforming and developing the profession and enhancing its economic and social returns by reducing the number of licenses in exchange for lucrative financial compensation for fishermen who wish to leave the profession voluntarily, which contributes to reducing the phenomenon of renting licenses to expatriate workers, and providing the opportunity for Bahrainis to enter the sea accompanied by professional fishermen without the requirement of obtaining a card. “Mayad”, with the aim of transferring expertise and preparing new generations of Bahraini fishermen, regulates amateur fishing and prevents them from competing with professional fishermen, so that their activity is limited to using the rod only, similar to what is done in neighboring countries.
