Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, witnessed the celebration organized by the “Masry” Center (MASRI) for Medical Research at Ain Shams University, under the slogan “Five Years of Excellence,” on the occasion of the five-year anniversary of its founding, in the presence of Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abidin, President of Ain Shams University, Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention, Hossam El-Mallah, President of Nahda University and member of the Senate, and Dr. Ahmed Zaki Badr, former Minister of Local Development, Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, former president of Ain Shams University, Maher Mesbah, secretary of the Supreme Council of Private Universities, Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Ain Shams, Dr. Hisham El-Ghazaly, head of the “Masry” Center, vice presidents of Ain Shams University, deans and deans of colleges, heads of departments, heads of research centers, and a number of scientific and medical leaders.
Minister of Higher Education: Ain Shams Medical Research Center is a pioneering model for modern research centers
Ayman Ashour emphasized that the Ain Shams Medical Research Center represents a scientific edifice that reflects the state’s vision of supporting scientific research and innovation. To achieve sustainable development and develop education in accordance with international standards, the center is a leading model of modern research centers, as it includes advanced units, such as: (genome analysis, bioinformatics, experimental animals, tissue culture, advanced microscopy, cancer biobank, advanced genetic sequencing, proteomic analysis), in addition to the bioinformatics network and regional biobanks, stressing that this research diversity embodies the integration between medicine and science, and supports the Ministry’s orientation towards multidisciplinary research to serve human health and society.
The Minister pointed out the role played by the Ministry, through the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, in building the capabilities of researchers through training programs, technical support, and research dissemination, in addition to strengthening international partnerships that contribute to exchanging experiences and developing the scientific research system at the Ain Shams Medical Research Center. He praised the role of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) in supporting and establishing the research infrastructure at the Center, and financing specific projects that enabled the Center to establish advanced laboratories at the highest level of efficiency and equipment, such as: the accredited genome laboratory, as well as supporting Obtaining accreditation from EGAC; This reflects the state’s commitment to developing scientific research and innovation in Egypt.
Dr. Ayman Ashour pointed out that the Ain Shams Medical Research Center is distinguished by its advanced research and its fruitful international cooperation, praising the university’s role in implementing the vision of the presidential initiative “Alliance and Development” and promoting research in interdisciplines, stressing the Ministry of Higher Education’s support for research projects, international scientific publishing, training and exchange programs, as well as innovation and technology transfer to serve society and the economy, appreciating the efforts of the university and the center team in promoting scientific research and innovation.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his great support for science, scholars, the higher education system and scientific research, stressing that the scientific and research renaissance that Egypt is witnessing today is an extension of an ancient civilizational process, which the people of the country continue through major scientific projects, such as advanced research centers and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which reflect the genius of the Egyptian human being and his ability to build and create.
Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din pointed to the pivotal role of the College of Medicine in supporting major presidential initiatives such as “100 Million Health” and the Egyptian National Genome Project, stressing the importance of digital transformation in developing medical education, and keeping pace with the state’s priorities in the fields of public health, genetic medicine, and climate change. He explained that the “Masry” Center for Medical Research embodies the result of a continuous effort over years, beginning a new phase of excellence and innovation that enhances Egypt’s position on the map of global scientific research.
For his part, Muhammad Dhia Zain Al-Abidin stressed that the “Masry” Center was launched with a clear vision that makes scientific research and innovation the basis of modern medicine to achieve a better health future, noting that the center includes advanced units for genomics, personalized medicine, clinical trials, and the biobank, which contributes to building databases that support discovery and targeted treatment.
The President of Ain Shams University explained that the center has become a model for integration between colleges, hospitals, and researchers, and a model for linking scientific research to human service and development, praising the efforts of the work team and partners, stressing that the center’s achievements in international publishing and global partnerships have made it an honorable face for Egyptian scientific research, and that what we are celebrating today is the beginning of a new phase of excellence and innovation in serving human health in Egypt and the region.
For his part, Ali Al-Anwar stressed that science and scientific research represent the strength of the nation and a national partner that aims to enhance human health and develop the nation, noting the commitment of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University to keep pace with “Egypt Vision 2030” and support presidential initiatives, such as: “100 Million Health.” He explained that the college focuses on digital transformation and directing research towards the state’s priorities; With the aim of transforming scientific ideas into practical applications that serve sustainable development and improve the quality of life of citizens, stressing that the established principle is science for the sake of the nation.
In his speech, Hisham Al-Ghazali stressed his pride in the distinguished research achievements achieved by the “Masry” Center over five years, explaining that the center has become an integrated system that includes advanced units for genomics, clinical trials, biobanking, tissue culture, and bioinformatics, in accordance with the highest international standards, noting that the center has published more than 150 research papers in prestigious international journals, such as: Nature, Science, and The Lancet, and has built international cooperation networks with major institutions in China and the United States, He stressed that what has been achieved is in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, and that the next stage will witness an expansion in genomic medicine, artificial intelligence, and training research cadres to serve the citizen and build an innovative health future.
The ceremony’s activities included the screening of a documentary film about the “Masry” Center for Medical Research, which reviewed its advanced units, including the internationally accredited Genomics and Precision Medicine Unit, the Biobank, the Clinical Trials Unit, Stem Cells and Tissue Culture, Bioinformatics, the Animal House, the One Health Unit, and Digital Pathology and Molecular Diagnostics.
The ceremony also witnessed the handing over ceremony of the Laboratory Preparation Project for International Accreditation in Higher Education Institutions (LIAP), where the project was handed over to the Genomics Research Laboratory at the “Masry” Center for Medical Research, in the presence of Dr. Osama Saqr, Director of the Laboratory Preparation Project for International Accreditation, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabbagh, Executive Director of the Higher Education Projects Development Unit, Dr. Sarah Ajwa, Director of the Genomics Unit at the “Masry” Center, and Major General Doctor Muhammad Al-Gohary, Director of the Regenerative Medicine Department in the Armed Forces.
