Russia’s production record of Crude oil It rose slightly during last October, approaching its target level within the OPEC+ alliance agreement, despite continued international pressure and Western sanctions imposed on the Russian energy sector, according to a Bloomberg report.
A slight increase in Russia’s oil production during October, approaching the OPEC+ target
The report indicated that Russia’s average oil production during October amounted to about 9.411 million barrels per day, an increase of 43 thousand barrels per day compared to the previous September.
Despite this increase, production is still about 70,000 barrels per day less than Russia’s quota within the coalition, which includes compensatory cuts for previous production excesses.
Monitoring of Russian production
Global oil market analysts are closely monitoring Russian production developments to assess the impact of Western sanctions and Ukrainian drone attacks on energy facilities inside the country.
The recent tightening of US sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil has led to a decline in Russian crude exports, after some refineries in India, China and Turkey showed increasing reluctance to purchase sanctioned cargoes.
At the same time, Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure escalated, increasing pressure on the refining sector, despite rapid efforts by Russian companies to repair the damage.
Analysts believe that if Moscow fails to find buyers for the sanctioned oil or repair damaged refining facilities, it may be forced to temporarily stop production in some fields, which could cause technical damage to oil wells.
The position of the Russian government
The Russian Energy Ministry declined to immediately comment on the latest production data, while Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed last month that Russia has the ability to gradually increase oil production according to market needs, TASS reported.
Compensatory cuts within OPEC+
Russia is one of the countries that previously exceeded its production quota within the OPEC+ alliance agreements, which prompted it to commit to implementing additional cuts to compensate for these exceedances.
The timetable for these cuts was amended more than once, with the latest plan announced in early October, which made it clear that last October was the last month in which the compensatory cuts would be implemented.
Under the agreement, Moscow pledged to reduce its daily production by about 10,000 barrels from the official quota of 9.491 million barrels per day, bringing the required level to 9.481 million barrels per day.
The data indicate that October production was close to the target set in the compensation plan submitted to the OPEC Secretariat on September 7, which set the production ceiling at 9.457 million barrels per day.
With this limited increase, Russia maintains a relative commitment to the OPEC+ agreement, amid increasing challenges that include Western sanctions, Ukrainian attacks, and declining demand from Asian buyers, while Moscow continues to try to balance the equation of maintaining oil revenues while avoiding new exceedances of the prescribed quota.
