Family medicine specialist and member of the Friends of Health Society, Dr. Youssef Al-Tahou: Breast cancer is one of the diseases that most causes concern for women and their families, but at the same time it has become one of the most controllable types of cancer thanks to medical and technological progress.
He added that artificial intelligence has today become an important tool in reading radiology images such as mammograms and MRIs, as it is able to analyze thousands of images at high speed and monitor very minute changes that the human eye may not be able to notice. He pointed out that this helped reduce errors in diagnosis and raised the chances of detecting tumors in the early stages, which significantly doubles recovery rates.
He continued that the role of technology is not limited to diagnosis only, but extends to designing the most appropriate treatment for each patient, explaining that artificial intelligence, through analyzing genetic and clinical data, helps doctors choose the most effective medications and avoid unnecessary treatments with severe side effects. He explained that this shift is known as personalized medicine, where treatment becomes precisely tailored to suit each individual case, making the treatment journey more effective and less arduous.
He pointed out that technology also contributes to monitoring the patient’s condition during the various stages of treatment, as smart systems organize the results of the tests and present them in an integrated manner to the doctor, which facilitates the decision-making process and makes the patient more reassured about the existence of a clear and thoughtful treatment plan.
Al-Tahoo concluded by emphasizing that the entry of artificial intelligence into the field of combating breast cancer is no longer a futuristic idea, but rather has become a reality applied today in major medical centers around the world. He explained that it does not replace the doctor, but rather provides him with a more accurate “second eye” and a memory that does not forget details. He considered that cooperation between human experience and the power of technology has opened new horizons for confronting the disease and transformed cancer from a source of fear into a story of hope and healing.
