The annual report on development achievements for infrastructure development in Bahrain, issued by the Ministry of Works for the year 2024, revealed that the Ministry completed 88 projects in the roads and sanitation sectors, and 40 projects in the buildings sector, which included maintenance projects and the construction of new buildings.
The report indicated that there are 66 projects under implementation, and 142 tenders were awarded with a total value of 260 million dinars.
The report indicated that the value of the projects completed in the road sector for the year 2024, for the main projects, amounted to 134 million dinars for the completion of 34 projects, while the cost of maintenance of the main streets that were completed amounted to about 8 million dinars, while the cost of maintenance for internal roads amounted to 5 million dinars.
The Ministry’s most prominent projects in the road sector, according to the report, were the main works of the Muharraq Ring Road at a cost of 37.2 million dinars, and the expansion of Al-Janabiya Street, whose cost exceeded 12 million dinars, in addition to the construction of the second outlet for the East Hidd Housing Project at a total cost exceeding 5 million dinars.
The road projects also included developing the outlets of the Galali area, with a total value exceeding 275.5 thousand dinars, in addition to improving Al-Deir Street in blocks 231, 232, and 233, at a total cost amounting to 236.94 thousand dinars, and developing Sheikh Issa bin Rashid Street and Road 5441 in Galali, with a total value exceeding one million dinars.
It also included the development of Sheikh Hamad Street – Block 211 in Muharraq at a total cost of 528.7 thousand dinars, the establishment of a bicycle path in the Southern Governorate at a total cost of 16.5 million dinars, and the transfer of services from the Ma’ameer Canal at a cost of more than 1.86 million dinars, in addition to the expansion of Street 27 in Janabiyah at a cost of 5.4 million dinars.
The report explained that the Ministry implemented 19 projects to maintain main streets in various governorates, in addition to implementing 124 projects to maintain internal roads with the aim of maintaining their sustainability and raising their efficiency and level of traffic safety.
The report stated that the Ministry continued its efforts to develop the sanitation sector, within a comprehensive strategy aimed at meeting the increasing needs of urban expansion and population growth in Bahrain, through the implementation of vital projects that include establishing stations and establishing sanitation transmission lines, as well as establishing modern networks in various regions of the Kingdom, with the aim of providing an integrated healthy environment that contributes to raising the quality of life, and reflects the Kingdom’s vision for achieving sustainable development.
Among the most important projects completed during the year 2024 is the sewage network in Block 711 in Tubli at a cost exceeding 429.9 thousand dinars, and the sewage network in Blocks 381 and 382 in Nabih Saleh at approximately 234.5 thousand dinars, in addition to the sewage network in Block 255 in the Muharraq Oasis at a cost of more than 999.9 thousand dinars.
Sanitation projects also included the sewage network in Block 1010 in Hamala, at a total cost of 300 thousand dinars, and the sewage network in Block 924 in Jiri Al-Sheikh, at 205 thousand dinars, in addition to the sewage network in Block 439 in Sahla, at about 80 thousand dinars. It also included delivering treated water to Complex 733 in Nassifah, at a total cost of 260 thousand dinars.
The report indicated that the cost of the building projects amounted to 927 thousand dinars, and included: constructing an additional academic building at the East Riffa Primary School for Girls with an area of 3 thousand square meters, which includes 17 classrooms, specialized laboratories, and rooms prepared for female students with special needs.
During the past year, the Ministry also maintained 35 government schools in various governorates in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, and rehabilitated and maintained 4 historic schools: Maryam Bint Imran Primary School for Girls, Tariq Bin Ziyad Preparatory School for Boys, Omaima Bint Al-Numan Secondary School for Girls, and Abdul Rahman Al Nasser Primary School Preparatory School for Boys.
