Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shaibani, said that his country is witnessing a historic shift in its diplomatic path, considering that this shift represents a qualitative shift in the representation of Syria on the international arena.
Al-Shaibani explained in his statements that Syrian diplomacy today has become more expressive of the aspirations of the Syrian people, and is capable of conveying their voice to the world, stressing that the ministry is working to overcome the effects of previous policies that he described as blackmail, which were followed by the “defunct regime,” as he put it.
He pointed out that the shift in Syrian diplomacy established a policy open to dialogue and cooperation, and made diplomatic work a fundamental pillar in addressing economic challenges, most notably the sanctions that continue to affect development and reconstruction.
Al-Shaibani stressed that his ministry is building positive relations with countries hosting Syrian refugees, with the aim of improving their conditions and ensuring their good treatment. He also stressed that the new Syria is working to protect itself from any attempts at political polarization or threats that may hinder its reform path.
His country’s categorical rejection of any partition projects
He pointed out that Syria’s image in international forums has become a source of pride compared to previous periods, pointing out that the new foreign policy is not based on siding with any axes or hostility with any party, but rather seeks to reposition Syria as a country that looks to the future with confidence.
Regarding the internal file, Al-Shaibani stressed his country’s categorical rejection of any division or federal projects, saying: This principle is not subject to discussion or negotiation.
