Volkswagen announced on Tuesday that it was preparing to stop production of two major models, but denied any connection to the dispute over chip maker Nexperia, which is putting pressure on supply chains.

For his part, a company spokesman told Reuters that stopping production of the Golf and Tiguan models this week had been planned for a long time to deal with inventory problems, coinciding with the fall holidays.
Bild newspaper was the first to report these plans, citing sources from the supplier network, and said that these measures are linked to a dispute over the Dutch chip manufacturer Nexperia.
While the company spokesman said that this is inaccurate, he added that the production shutdown is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
Dutch chipmaker Nexpria, a subsidiary of Chinese company Wingtech, is at the center of a dispute that threatens global auto supply chains.
