Last week, US President Donald Trump announced the end of the war in Gaza. It was not an ordinary announcement, but rather a global event that shook the news headlines and the feelings of millions at the same time. For the killing machine to stop after two bloody years is – without a doubt – the most important and beautiful news for humanity in the last decade.
But, despite this overwhelming joy that has flooded the hearts of people in all corners of the earth, I am not that optimistic. I have firm belief in what God Almighty said, “And whenever they make a covenant, a group of them rejects it. Nay, most of them do not believe.” How many agreements were signed in the name of “peace” and were only a temporary truce that concealed treacherous intentions, and how many treaties raised their white flags and were soon drowned in blood.
What happened in Gaza was not a short war, but rather a new chapter of genocide that reached terrifying levels never witnessed in modern human history. The whole world saw – and even witnessed – the masks falling from faces that were crying over oppression, and they were practicing injustice in its ugliest forms.
Today, there are those who record in their notebooks that the war began on October 7, 2023 and ended on October 10, 2025, as if the Palestinian issue was created on these two dates only!
While the truth is that this hateful occupation is close to eighty years of oppression, displacement, and massacres, all of which were committed under one banner (protecting Israel’s security), and with global, international blessing.
They say the war is over, as if eighty years of oppression could be erased with a political statement or a signature on paper.
As for us – the children of this nation – our responsibility does not end with the declaration of a ceasefire, but rather begins again.
Our duty is to renew our firm position: that we stand with our first cause, with the right of our brothers in Palestine to live in security and dignity on their land that was stolen from them, and with their full, undiminished rights.
And to always remind ourselves and the world who the real enemy is, and that treachery and betrayal are not an exception in its history, but rather are its origin and essence.
We are not supporters of gray matter, because it is a non-existent area between right and wrong. Rather, it is a clear position that does not accept neutrality. We cannot equate the victim and the executioner by forgetting what happened, or saying that it is a new page! We cannot say that “peace has returned” simply because the guns fell silent. History has taught us that treachery is born from the womb of a truce, and that every agreement that is not built on justice and dignity is a temporary illusion that will quickly collapse.
Perhaps this new “peace,” which the world applauds today, is nothing but another truce in a long record of false truces. However, we believe that the right does not die as long as there is someone behind it to defend it, and that Palestine will remain, as long as heaven and earth remain, the issue of a nation, not just a political file that is folded on the negotiating table.
