Real Madrid has drawn up a work plan for the post-phase of its Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, in a move aimed at securing the goalkeeper position for the future, with the player approaching the end of his current contract in the 2027 season.

Real Madrid is seeking to move early to ensure continued stability in the goalkeeping position, in light of the advanced age of Courtois, who is considered one of the team’s most prominent stars in recent years.

The Spanish newspaper “AS” reported that the Royal Club’s management has already identified the potential successor to the Belgian goalkeeper, if his departure is decided during the coming period.

Fran Gonzalez, Courtois’ successor as Real Madrid’s goalkeeper

According to the report, young goalkeeper Fran Gonzalez, a player for Real Madrid Castilla (the club’s youth team), is the most prominent candidate to succeed Courtois, as he enjoys great admiration within the club, thanks to his talent and distinguished performance with the Spanish national team in the World Youth Cup, which caught the attention of Luis Lopes, the goalkeeping coach of the first team.

The young goalkeeper had previously participated in first-team training during Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure, which makes Lopes fully aware of his potential and technical abilities.

A potential crisis in renewing Courtois’ contract

Reports indicated that Real Madrid may face difficulties in extending Courtois’ contract, as the club wants to renew it for only one season, according to Florentino Perez’s policy with players over the age of thirty.

On the other hand, the Belgian goalkeeper prefers to sign a new three-year contract, which may open the door to the possibility of his departure in the future.
