The administration of US President Donald Trump announced that it is close to concluding an agreement with China, which would maintain the operation of the famous social networking application “Tik Tok” within the United States, amid hopes that the deal will be signed today, Thursday, during an upcoming meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, according to media reports.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent said in television statements that the two leaders will conclude this deal today, Thursday, in Korea, in a move that would end months of controversy over the future of the Chinese platform in the American market.
The TikTok application was facing the risk of being completely banned in the United States under a law passed by Congress, and signed by former President Joe Biden, stipulating that the application be banned unless it is sold to an American entity alternative to the Chinese company ByteDance that owns it.

The app had already been temporarily suspended last January, before Trump intervened on the first day of his term by issuing an executive order to keep it running pending a new agreement.
Since then, Trump has issued several executive orders to extend the legal deadline, in light of repeated attempts to reach an agreement with China on partially transferring ownership of the application to American investors. However, negotiations have faltered more than once due to trade disputes between the two countries, especially after Washington announced new customs tariffs on Chinese imports.
