With the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip officially entering into force today, Friday, a United Nations official announced that the international organization will begin delivering massive humanitarian aid on a large scale the day after tomorrow, Sunday.
The official explained that the organization received the green light from Israel to begin delivering aid to Gaza as of Sunday.
He also added, requesting anonymity, that the details have not been announced yet, but the aid will include 170,000 metric tons that were previously prepared in neighboring countries such as Jordan and Egypt.
This comes as humanitarian officials wait for permission from Israeli forces to return to their work.
According to UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher, during the past few months the United Nations and its partners in humanitarian work have been able to provide only 20% of the aid required in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking to reporters at the United Nations via video technology, Fletcher said that the United Nations was “asking, pleading, pleading for access.”
He said: “We hope that this will be achieved in the coming days.”
