The Supreme Council for the Environment received a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), within the framework of partnership and cooperation to develop statistical systems and fish statistics in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in order to support the efforts of marine wealth management and ensure its sustainability.
Mohamed Youssef Al -Asma, Director General of Marine Resources, stressed during the meeting that the development of the fish statistics system is a strategic step to improve the accuracy of data related to fish stocks and fishing efforts, and to provide reliable information that supports the decision -making process and the development of environmental policies, and enhances the efficiency of fish resources management and ensuring their sustainability, and meeting regional and international requirements for fish reports.
Mohamed El -Asma pointed out that cooperation with the “FAO” organization comes within the continuous national efforts to develop monitoring and analysis tools and adopt international best practices in the field of fisheries, in a manner that ensures the optimal use of marine resources and achieving the relevant sustainable development goals.
The visit included field tours in a number of sites and facilities related to the fish sector in the Kingdom, to see the methods approved to collect and analyze data and exchange technical experiences, and work to adopt international best practices that enhance the efficiency and transparency of the national fish statistics system.
