The city of Mahalla Al -Kubra in Gharbia Governorate witnessed a new development in the case of the collapse of the spinning factory, which resulted in the death of 14 people and the injury of 33 others.

During the investigation sessions, the defense of the factory owner, lawyer Khaled Raouf, prompted the request to form a specialized technical committee from the faculty members at the Faculty of Engineering in the Facilities, Engineering materials and architecture, to determine the scientific and technical reasons behind the collapse of the building.
The defense pointed to the need to determine whether the collapse was caused by weakness in the foundations or a defect in the construction designs, or was it a direct result of the fire that broke out in the building before its collapse. He also called for examining the effect of the extinguishing method, explaining that the use of water instead of foam or chemical powder may contribute to weakening the concrete and iron elements of the building, which led to its complete collapse.
