Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting today; To follow up on efforts to implement measures to reduce emissions and sustainable green transformation, in the presence of Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport, Engineer Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment.
This came in the presence of Engineer Mohamed Shimi, Minister of the Public Business Sector, Major General Engineer Essam Al-Najjar, Chairman of the General Authority for Export and Import Control, Ambassador Tamer Mostafa, Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate, Environment and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Rasha Abdel-Al, Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority, Engineer Yassin Mohamed, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Supervisor of Environment, Safety and Occupational Health, and Dr. Nermin Abu. Al-Atta, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and the Minister of Industry for Sustainable Development, Engineer Sherif Abdel Rahim, Assistant Minister of the Environment for Climate Policies, and a number of officials from the relevant authorities.
The Prime Minister follows up efforts to implement measures to reduce emissions and sustainable green transformation
The Prime Minister explained that the Egyptian state has achieved remarkable achievements in the green transformation file, which is a high priority in light of international trends to achieve sustainable green transformation in various sectors, stressing the need to continue working to enhance the green transformation in various economic sectors – in line with international efforts in this vital file – including the industrial sector, while enabling export sectors to adapt to and support international environmental standards. Also to ensure the sustainability of exports and increase their competitiveness in global markets.
Counselor Muhammad Al-Homsani, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, stated that the meeting witnessed a review of efforts and procedures to reduce emissions and achieve a sustainable green transformation and what has been reached in this regard. These measures aim to reduce emissions and the carbon footprint of many economic sectors, especially industrial ones, explaining that these implemented and ongoing measures are being implemented in cooperation and coordination between many concerned parties.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers added that these measures include setting criteria for selecting priority exporting companies and factories to obtain financial support with the aim of green transformation in their production lines, conducting field visits to companies and factories to measure the readiness of their production lines, conducting a technical and environmental assessment of the technology that can be applied, and determining executive procedures to reduce carbon emissions.
This comes in addition to providing technical support to industrial companies in conducting carbon footprint calculations, increasing companies’ environmental awareness and directing their investments to reduce the carbon footprint with sustainability and environmental governance standards, attracting green financing sources for companies and factories, providing technical support and green financing to industrial companies, granting green manufacturing incentives, and others.
Advisor Muhammad Al-Homsani pointed out that during the meeting, the importance of sustainable green transformation was emphasized, through decarbonization, raising the efficiency of energy consumption, and adopting clean production technologies and new and renewable energy. In addition to providing assistance to industrial companies to open new export markets and enhance competitiveness in global markets.
He continued: The efforts undertaken by the government in this regard give priority to enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian industry and exports in line with global efforts to transition to a green economy, and aim to enhance energy efficiency in the industrial sector and stimulate the use of new and renewable energy sources through a number of incentive measures, in order to advance the green transformation while ensuring the element of sustainability.
