The past few weeks have witnessed incidents of the theft of antiquities that have sparked controversy in various circles, most notably the theft of a gold bracelet from the restoration laboratories of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, and the theft of an archaeological stone plaque from the Khenti Ka cemetery in the Saqqara archaeological area.

Informed sources revealed to Cairo 24 a number of decisive measures taken by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to ensure the security of artifacts and the preservation of national heritage.
The sources confirmed that a study is currently underway to establish a large museum warehouse in the New Administrative Capital, equipped with the latest international technologies in the field of preservation, insurance, and environmental and electronic monitoring, to be a model center for storing and maintaining antiquities in accordance with the highest standards of safety and quality.
An expanded committee was also formed from the Ministry of Antiquities, with the membership of a number of specialized agencies, which undertakes to conduct a comprehensive review of all archaeological stores across the Republic, with the aim of inventorying the collections, ensuring the integrity of the preservation and insurance procedures within them, and developing an urgent development plan for the stores that need modernization or maintenance.
These steps come within the framework of the state’s keenness to protect Egyptian heritage, preserve archaeological treasures, and take radical measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
