The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced the launch of the “Sustinathon Sustainable Transport” competition, which is a pioneering initiative targeting students of accredited universities and colleges in the Kingdom of Bahrain, with the aim of raising the level of community awareness about the importance of sustainable transport and encouraging the use and development of environmentally friendly means of transport in a way that contributes to building sustainable and advanced smart cities.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Land Transport and Post, Fatima Al-Dhaen, confirmed that the competition comes within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to empower young people and involve them in building the future of the transport sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that the creative ideas of the students will contribute to the development of a smart and sustainable transport system that supports the quality of life, and keeps pace with the digital transformation in the Kingdom.
She explained that the initiative is consistent with the goals of sustainable development, especially those related to innovation and infrastructure, promoting sustainable cities, and climate action, by encouraging ideas that contribute to reducing carbon emissions and developing more efficient and sustainable transportation systems, stressing that the Ministry is continuing to implement specific projects that support these trends, including the launch of the first digital bus station in the Kingdom.
The Ministry invited university students to participate in the competition and provide innovative solutions to meet the challenges and contribute to shaping the future of sustainable transport in Bahrain, by registering through the Ministry’s website www.mtt.gov.bh, where the details of the challenge will be shared with the finalists and the winners will be honored during the month of next December.
