The Minister of Works announces the opening of registration for the Innovation in Irrigation Solutions Competition

In implementation of the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, to hold an innovation competition in irrigation solutions, with the aim of encouraging creative ideas and solutions that contribute to benefiting from surplus treated water, and enhancing the efficiency of its use in agriculture and afforestation, which contributes to the sustainability of resources and preserving the environment, and the expansion of irrigation networks, in a way that achieves the goals of the comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Excellency. His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the great King of the country, may God protect and protect him. His Excellency Engineer Ibrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj, Minister of Works, announced the opening of registration to participate in the “Irrigation Solutions Innovation Competition,” during the period from October 23 to November 6, 2025, provided that creative ideas are submitted no later than February 10, 2026 via the electronic platform designated for the competition, via the official website of the Ministry of Works www.works.gov.bh.

On this occasion, His Excellency the Minister confirmed that the competition targets all individuals, engineering offices, contractors, universities, institutes, scientific research centers and other institutions, to provide practical innovations that contribute to improving the efficiency of water use and ensuring a balanced distribution of irrigation for trees and crops, thus enhancing the efficiency of agricultural and urban beautification operations in various regions of the Kingdom.

He added that the initiative also aims to increase the use of surplus treated water in irrigating public spaces and gardens, expand the scope of its use in new projects, and provide economic and sustainable solutions for irrigation projects, in a way that supports the Kingdom’s goals in environmental and water sustainability, noting that applying smart and innovative irrigation solutions will contribute to raising the efficiency of water management and rationalizing its consumption within road projects and public areas.

His Excellency explained that the Ministry of Works, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, has established the regulatory mechanisms for the competition to ensure the achievement of its objectives in developing irrigation networks and expanding their scope using the latest technologies, stressing that the Ministry is working to enhance integration between infrastructure projects and environmental projects to ensure the achievement of sustainable development in various sectors.

His Excellency stated that the competition includes two main categories: The first includes developing innovative irrigation solutions in specific areas such as King Hamad Street, Bahrain Bay Street, and Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street, while the second category focuses on selecting an area of ​​the Kingdom that is not served by the treated water network, studying its needs and providing an integrated solution regarding it, pointing out that the entries will be evaluated according to four main criteria that include economic feasibility and cost, operational permanence and sustainability, the level of innovation and creativity, and quality of design. The technical presentation ensures achieving the highest levels of efficiency and quality in the solutions provided, and contributes to strengthening national efforts to sustain water resources and increase the green area in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

His Excellency the Minister of Works also confirmed that the competition represents a national initiative aimed at investing creativity in serving the environment and sustaining water resources in the Kingdom of Bahrain, calling on all interested individuals and competent authorities to participate and present their innovative ideas that contribute to enhancing the efficiency of water use and improving the irrigation system in various regions of the Kingdom.
