Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Able to Differ” Fund, witnessed the opening of the round table activities organized by the “Able to Differ” Fund under the title “Strengthening Institutional Capacities to Serve People with Disabilities,” in the presence of Zeina Tawakkol, Executive Director of the “Able to Differ” Fund, and representatives of civil society, working institutions, and experts in this field.
The Minister of Social Solidarity expressed her honor for the Ministry of Social Solidarity to host the first activities organized by the “Capable with Difference” Fund after Zeina Tawakkol assumed the duties of the Fund’s Executive Director, noting that this fund was established to confirm the President of the Republic’s keenness to guarantee the rights of people with disabilities and make them an essential partner in the nation, and work to ensure health and educational care and provide job opportunities in order to participate in society in a decent manner. Tawakkol emphasized that the round table is the first event of the “Capable with Difference” Fund and we meet under the umbrella of one goal, which is to build a more inclusive and just society, a society that opens its arms to all its children without discrimination, and believes that difference is a source of strength and creativity, and not an obstacle to dreams, in the shadow of the Arab Republic of Egypt, which under the wise leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi gave the issue of disability unprecedented attention, embodied in decisions, legislation and initiatives. It has made Egypt a model in the region for the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities.
The Executive Director of the “Able to Differ” Fund pointed out that the round table is a platform to enhance dialogue and coordination between institutions working in the field of disability. This table is not just a consultative meeting, but rather a common space to unify visions and build real partnerships between the state, civil society, experts and service providers. Tawakkol explained that the Fund prepared this table with an interactive methodology that allows each participant to be part of the solution, and the discussion sessions reviewed the beneficiary’s journey with service providers, the role of civil society, and the most prominent institutional and technical challenges, leading to the best practices and applicable recommendations that will form the basis for joint work in the next stage.
She added that the “Able to Differ” Fund is a coordination and development arm of the state in this field, and works to integrate with the ministries and concerned authorities to provide protection, care and social development for people with disabilities, and support them in the economic, educational, health and training fields.
The Executive Director of the “Able to Differ” Fund called on everyone to work with a unified vision and a measurable implementation plan, noting that the Fund will work in the spirit of one team, under the umbrella of the Egyptian state, which puts people at the heart of development.
Support and promote the integration of persons with disabilities
The round table comes within the framework of the work of the “Capable with Differences” Fund to support and enhance the integration of persons with disabilities in Egypt, and is an important step to enhance dialogue and coordination between civil society actors and institutions working in this field.
The table witnessed the participation of representatives of civil society organizations, relevant institutions, and experts in the field of disability, with the aim of creating a common space for exchanging ideas and good practices, with the aim of building a clearer understanding of the available opportunities and existing challenges, and through this, the Fund can better identify areas of intervention and strategic support.
The table aimed to strengthen communication channels between the Fund and institutions working with persons with disabilities, identify the most prominent gaps in services provided to persons with disabilities, explore the challenges facing organizations as providers of care for persons with disabilities, as well as review and exchange successful experiences and best practices in using funding.
