Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, witnessed the distinguished event organized by the American University in Cairo under the title "Promoting the culture and heritage of Egypt"In the presence of Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, winner of the position of Director-General of UNESCO, and Dr. Ahmed Dalal, President of the American University in Cairo, in addition to a group of public figures and university leaders.
The importance of effectiveness and its role in promoting peace
At the beginning of his speech, the Minister of Higher Education indicated that the eyes of the world had turned to the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, where world leaders gathered to attend "Peace summit"which reflects Egypt’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East region. He also expressed his pride and happiness at Dr. Khaled Al-Anani winning the position of the new Director-General of UNESCO, praising his distinction as one of the most prominent researchers in Egyptology and archaeology, wishing him success in his new position.
Supporting talent and purposeful initiatives
Dr. Ayman Ashour stressed the importance of supporting talents and geniuses by implementing and investing in purposeful initiatives, pointing out that these initiatives are not only related to funding, but rather are investments in knowledge and innovation to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development, strengthen academic foundations, and encourage research excellence, which contributes to strengthening Egypt’s position as a vital part of the global learning community, in the context of striving to build a better future for all.
Congratulations to the American University and the role of UNESCO
At the conclusion of his speech, the Minister extended his sincere congratulations to the American University in Cairo and to the distinguished figures who were honored during the event, including Dr. Khaled Al-Anani for winning the position of Director-General of UNESCO. For his part, Dr. Al-Anani expressed his happiness at participating in the event from within the university’s headquarters, pointing out the importance of the upcoming opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum on the first of next November, which is an exceptional event that reflects the greatness of Egyptian history.
Dr. Khaled Al-Anani explained that UNESCO was established to establish peace among peoples, as the world realized after World War II that political agreements are not enough to unify governments. Rather, the focus must be on promoting education and science, supporting the right to education, eradicating illiteracy, innovation, and preserving cultural diversity, stressing the importance of supporting the organization’s efforts in the coming period.
