Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, received Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy, the new Indian Ambassador to Cairo, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Administrative Capital, to discuss ways to support and enhance opportunities for cooperation and partnership and attract more investments in various fields of electricity, especially new and renewable energy projects, and maximizing the benefit of modern technologies and innovative solutions within the framework of the action plan for modernization, development, transformation to a smart electrical grid, and green hydrogen fields.

The meeting discussed the national energy strategy, the available investment projects and opportunities, support for the local and foreign private sector to participate, the work program of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to maximize the role of new and renewable energies in the energy mix and reliance on it, the energy transition, the areas of green hydrogen, and the state’s vision for managing and investing in natural resources to enhance sustainability and energy security. The meeting discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and partnership and open new areas of cooperation between Egypt and India to achieve energy security and support investment, and present investment opportunities in the field of energy to Indian companies, and increase cooperation in the areas of training, capacity building and exchange of experiences. Technology transfer and smart grids, as well as cooperation in the areas of localization of the electrical equipment industry, especially in the areas of renewable energy.
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat welcomed the Indian Ambassador, offering congratulations on assuming responsibility for his new position, praising the depth of historical relations between the two countries, noting the opportunities to support and enhance cooperation between the two sides and increasing the participation of Indian companies in sector projects in various fields of electricity, especially renewable energy and smart grids. He explained the national energy strategy, increasing reliance on renewable energy, reducing fossil fuel consumption and reducing carbon emissions, to achieve environmental sustainability, and the use of modern technology and digital transformation, pointing to opportunities for cooperation and strengthening technological partnership, explaining that there is a great scope To invest in renewable energy projects, in light of our updated national energy strategy, which aims to reach renewable energies to 42% of the total energy generated in 2030, and 65% in 2040, and to build a cleaner and more sustainable energy mix, explaining that the state has undertaken a complete reconstruction of the infrastructure and strengthened the necessary legislative structure that encourages the private sector and international financing bodies to implement projects in various fields of electricity and energy.
For his part, the Indian ambassador praised the great experience that the electricity sector in Egypt possesses in the fields of work, stressing the necessity of continuing work to increase the volume of cooperation in all fields of electricity, especially in the fields of renewable energy, praising Egypt’s pivotal role in the region, stressing the importance of unifying efforts between the two countries to achieve development goals, and being keen to encourage more investors in India to work and pump investments in the Egyptian energy sector.
