The head of Al-Azhar graduates discusses jurisprudence and modern technology at the upcoming Tanta Sharia Conference

The Faculty of Sharia and Law in Tanta recently witnessed the activities of a distinguished international conference, where the pivotal scientific session dealt with the relationship between Islamic jurisprudence and modern technology, in light of the discussions that combine authenticity and modernity. The conference aims to shed light on the integration of Islamic jurisprudence with technical developments, which contributes to improving life transactions and directing them in accordance with the principles of Islamic Sharia.

The session was chaired by Dr. Saif Rajab Qazamel, head of the branch of the International Organization of Al-Azhar Graduates in Gharbia, and former dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law in Tanta. Dr. Badia Al-Tamlawi, who holds the position of vice-president of the organization’s branch, and Dr. Muhammad Okaz, who had a major role in enriching the discussions, also participated in the session. Dr. Saif Al-Jabali supervised the session’s work in his capacity as the committee’s rapporteur.

The session discussed a group of academic research that examined contemporary jurisprudential issues that converge with modern technological developments. One of the most prominent topics discussed was the extent of financial and ownership of personal data. The jurisprudential rules related to the use of contemporary technologies and artificial intelligence systems were also addressed.

This session comes within a series of scientific discussions centered on the role of Islamic jurisprudence in keeping pace with technological developments, as it seeks to emphasize the flexibility of Sharia in directing the path of technological development in a way that achieves its goals of preserving life, offspring, and money, which highlights the importance of jurisprudence in the modern-day environment.

The conference was held under the patronage of the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and with the participation of an elite group of scholars and researchers from inside and outside the country, in addition to the supervision of a number of distinguished academics, which reflects the trend towards establishing an effective partnership between jurisprudence and modern technologies to achieve balanced development.
