Dr. Manal Ghannam, Head of the Central Administration for the Restoration and Maintenance of Antiquities and Museums, inspected the Citadel of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, which included a number of archaeological sites, including the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha and the Mosque of al-Nasser Muhammad ibn Qalawun, in order to find out the latest developments in the restoration and maintenance work, and to ensure that they are carried out in accordance with the highest approved scientific and technical standards, within the framework of periodic follow-up of restoration work at archaeological sites.
During the tour, Dr. Manal Ghannam stressed the importance of continuing technical support for the teams working at archaeological sites, and providing the necessary facilities to overcome any challenges facing the restoration work, in order to ensure achieving the best results in preserving unique archaeological buildings and preserving their historical and architectural value.
She indicated that the administration pays great attention to intensifying field technical follow-up work and strengthening oversight mechanisms for project implementation, which contributes to raising work efficiency and achieving the highest quality standards in restoration and maintenance work.
Maintenance of archaeological sites
In a related context, restoration leaders participated in a number of technical committees to follow up on the progress of ongoing restoration and maintenance work at various archaeological sites, thus enhancing technical oversight mechanisms and unifying implementation standards in all stages of work.
The Central Administration is also continuing its efforts to build the scientific and practical capabilities of specialized cadres, as preparations are currently underway to hold a seminar entitled “Controls for Organizing Work in Antiquities Stores,” moderated by Saeed Shibl, Head of the Central Administration for Museum and Specific Stores, in coordination with the Museums Sector and the Conservation and Documentation Sector, within the framework of developing workers’ skills and enhancing artistic and scientific awareness in the fields of preservation and restoration.
These efforts come within the framework of the plan of the Central Administration for the restoration and maintenance of antiquities and museums to support field work, strengthen the preservation and preservation system, and build specialized capabilities to ensure the sustainability of the protection and preservation of Egyptian heritage for future generations.
