Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Asiri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency, participated in the “ITU Space Sustainability Forum 2025”, which was organized by the International Telecommunication Union.
This participation represented a reflection of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s increasing role in the international dialogue on space security and sustainability, and its keenness to keep pace with the latest developments in the sector.
An important event for policymakers, industry leaders, regulators and space experts, the Forum brought together global leaders and experts to address the most pressing challenges in space sustainability and explore innovative solutions for the future of space-based systems and exploration.
The main discussions focused on satellite management, developing exploration from low Earth orbit to the Moon, and achieving effective space situational awareness and frequency spectrum, as a critical element for the success of space missions and the security and sustainability of space radio communications systems.
Regarding this participation, Dr. Al-Asiri explained that the agency’s participation in this forum represents profound strategic importance, as it constitutes a vital platform for enhancing international cooperation and building strategic partnerships with leading agencies and organizations in the field, such as the Italian Space Agency, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the agency. Participation also allows access to the latest technical and political developments in extremely important areas such as space traffic management and coordination. To use the orbital frequency spectrum, which is a limited resource, and space debris mitigation strategies. Furthermore, this participation contributes to developing national competencies by transferring knowledge and global best practices to the agency team, and enabling Bahraini cadres to contribute to the formulation of international policies and standards governing future space activities.
He said: “The insights and experiences gained from this international forum will add great value to the agency’s team and its future initiatives. In the field of capacity building, the agency will work to enhance its team’s skills in the areas of space risk prediction and complex data analysis, in preparation for participating in pioneering projects. This knowledge will also support the development of a comprehensive national space sustainability strategy that sets clear frameworks for managing Bahraini space missions.” “With its commitment to international conventions, and in terms of innovation, the agency will push towards developing research projects focusing on national satellite monitoring and tracking technologies, and developing innovative technical solutions that directly contribute to global efforts to ensure a safe and sustainable space environment for all.”
These efforts come in line with the Bahrain Space Agency’s vision to localize space science and technology to advance sustainable development in the Kingdom, and enhance Bahrain’s position as an active player in the global space community.
