In its eighth session, the El Gouna Film Festival announced that the American film “Seeds” by director Brittany Shine won the Green Star of El Gouna Award, during the awards ceremony held at the conclusion of the festival’s activities in El Gouna, which is the award designated for cinematic works that highlight issues of the environment and sustainable development and call for the preservation of the planet Earth.
The award was announced during the closing ceremony, which witnessed a wide attendance of movie stars in Egypt and the Arab world, including Yousra, Elham Shaheen, Nelly Karim, Dhafer El Abidine, Kinda Alloush, Amr Youssef, Bushra, Khaled Youssef, and Nahed El Sebaei, in addition to a number of directors, producers, and independent filmmakers.
The eighth session of the festival witnessed the screening of more than 80 feature, documentary and short films, and the total value of the prizes amounted to more than 230 thousand dollars. This year’s session was also distinguished by honoring international director Cate Blanchett and actress Menna Shalaby, and celebrating the centenary of director Youssef Chahine through an art exhibition and a special program of his works.
The festival concluded with the announcement of the winners of the various competition awards in a festive atmosphere that reflects the festival’s status as one of the most prominent cinematic events in the region.
