What did Mohamed Salah achieve in the African Player of the Year award?
Mohamed Salah is competing for the Best African Player award for the seventh time in his career, as he previously won the award twice in a row, in 2017 and 2018.
The Pharaoh also achieved second place in the award standings in 2019 and 2022, while the ceremony was canceled in 2020 and 2021, respectively, due to the Corona pandemic.

Mohamed Salah received a huge shock after he was excluded from the final list of the best African player in the last edition in 2024, as the final CAF selections included only 5 players, not including the Liverpool star.
CAF justified the exclusion of the captain of the national team at that time, based on the selection being based on the players’ performance in the 2023 African Nations, in addition to their scoring average and their achievements with their clubs.
The Egyptian national team was eliminated from the African Nations competitions in the round of 16, and Mohamed Salah was injured at that time. He also failed to achieve the league and Champions League titles with Liverpool, and also lost the race of top scorers in the Premier League and Champions League.
It is noteworthy that the Egyptian Pharaoh occupies seventh place on the list of players who have won the Best Player in Africa award, equal to Ivorian Didier Drogba, but he took second place once, compared to the first 4 times.
