Engineer Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, confirmed that the House of Representatives’ participation in the “Tree Week” activities comes in support of consolidating the culture of preserving the environment and sustaining its resources, raising environmental awareness in society, and increasing green spaces, in implementation of the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the great king of the country, may God protect and preserve him, and within the framework of the kindness of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad. The Secretary-General of the House of Representatives explained that parliamentary participation in “Tree Week” is consistent with the role and concept of the “Green Parliament,” following the House of Representatives obtaining accreditation for the implementation of (ISO for Environmental Management Systems) from the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), making the House of Representatives at the forefront of regional legislative institutions in the field of environmental management.
Praising the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to adhere to the highest environmental standards, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, and appreciating the community partnership in “Tree Week”, contributing to spreading the culture of afforestation, and promoting positive environmental behavior, as it is a high civilized behavior.
It is worth noting that ISO accreditation for environmental management is directly consistent with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which focuses on sustainability and environmental balance, and is in line with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. It comes in the context of a package of environmental projects undertaken by the General Secretariat of the House of Representatives, including increasing green areas, transitioning to clean energy, increasing the number of environmental trees in the House, and other initiatives and programs.
