Resigned French Prime Minister Sebastien Le Cornu said on Wednesday that President Emmanuel Macron may nominate a new prime minister within the next 48 hours, adding that the possibility of holding early parliamentary elections is diminishing.
Lecornu explained to France 2: “I informed the President of the Republic that the possibilities of dissolving Parliament are diminishing, and I believe that this situation allows the President to name a prime minister within the next forty-eight hours.”
LoCorno maintained that his mission was “done.”
Since Tuesday, after submitting his resignation as head of government, Sebastien Lecornu has held “last chance” consultations with the political forces, commissioned by President Macron, in order to reach a solution to the political crisis.
He pointed out that the majority of the parties do not want to dissolve the National Assembly and call for new elections, as he found out at the conclusion of the recent consultations he conducted with the various parties in an effort to get the country out of the crisis.
He highlighted: “What we lack is the ability to reach compromise solutions in Parliament.”
In the same dialogue, Locorno believes that the next government must be “completely separate from presidential ambitions.”
He explained this by saying: “The situation is difficult enough. We need a team that ultimately decides to work hard and diligently to solve the country’s problems until the presidential elections.”
He also pointed out that “the position regarding the pension system is still one of the biggest sticking points. It is difficult to say that the discussion is unnecessary. We will have to continue working on the pension issue.”
