Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his participation in the “Valdai” forum for political dialogue, said European countries that they are responsible for the continuation of the war in Ukraine. He said that the “continuous escalation” policy of Europe has prevented a peaceful settlement since the outbreak of the war in 2022.
Trump’s disappointment
Putin pointed out that the attempts of several international powers sought to resolve the conflict, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Reports stated that US President Donald Trump tried to mediate to stop the war through negotiations that extended for months, but he recently expressed his disappointment from Putin, stressing that the latter “could end the war if he wanted to.”
Russian position and conditions
Despite the mediation attempts, the Kremlin continues to adhere to its maximum demands, on top of which is Kiev, the efforts to join NATO and give up lands in favor of Russia. These conditions have made opportunities to reach any negotiating agreement almost impossible so far.
Warning from the militarization of Europe
In his speech, Putin touched on the armament of European countries, and said: “We closely monitor the militarization of Europe. In Germany, for example, it is said that the German army should become the strongest in Europe. Good, we hear that and watch what they mean.”
Russian response is expected
The Russian president concluded by saying that Moscow will quickly respond to any steps it sees as a direct threat, adding: “No one doubts that the Russian response will not be late”, without revealing the nature of the measures that his country may take.
