Informed sources reported that the United States and Saudi Arabia have made significant progress in their talks on an anticipated agreement that allows American chip companies to export advanced semiconductors to Saudi Arabia, in a step that is expected to be concluded soon as part of the two countries’ efforts to enhance cooperation in the fields of advanced technology and artificial intelligence.

According to sources reported by the American Wall Street Journal, discussions between the two sides began last May, after US President Donald Trump promoted potential agreements involving NVIDIA and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, to use chips in data centers designated for training intelligence models. This step comes within the US administration’s vision to expand its technological exports and enhance the presence of its companies in global markets.

Facing challenges

However, the Saudi agreement still faces some challenges, as Washington is wary of the possibility of China benefiting indirectly from these sensitive technologies, which previously led to the disruption of the agreement between NVIDIA and the UAE, and raised the dissatisfaction of the company’s CEO, Jensen Huang, with the restrictions imposed on exports.

However, the deal witnessed tangible progress in recent weeks, after the US administration agreed to export some NVIDIA chips, following the UAE’s confirmation of amending its investment plans in favor of the American market, in a step that opened the door to accelerating the agreement with Saudi Arabia.
