Porsche said it swung to a larger-than-expected operating loss in the third quarter, pushing the German sports car maker deeper into crisis as it slows the shift to electric cars and battles to stem declining sales in major market China.

Porsche records quarterly losses of $1.1 billion due to the financial crisis

The group’s operating loss amounted to 966 million euros ($1.1 billion) in the third quarter, down from a profit of 974 million euros in the same period last year, due to expenses to cover the significant decline in its expansion in the field of electric cars announced last month.

While analysts expected an operating loss of 611 million euros in the period from July to September.

The group announced last week that Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche and CEO of parent company Volkswagen, will hand over his leadership position at Porsche to Michael Leiters, former president of McLaren, at the beginning of 2026, after long criticism from investors regarding the dual role.
