Poland arrested a Ukrainian citizen based on a German arrest warrant, on suspicion of being involved in the bombing of the “Nord Stream 2” gas pipeline in 2022, according to the general prosecutors and its lawyers on Tuesday.
Lawyer Timotiush Babrushki, the client of the Ukrainian citizen, whose name was not revealed, told TV-24, “early in the morning, my client was detained in one of the towns near Warsaw under a European arrest warrant issued by the German side, against the backdrop of issues related to the Stream 2.”
Polish media reports reported that the suspect is (Voludimir G), without revealing the name of his entire family.
“I confirm that he has been arrested. The procedures are continuing,” Warsaw Prosecutor’s spokesman in Warsaw, Pioter Skipa, told AFP.
Babrushki saw in his defenses that, given that Russia is in a war with Ukraine, and that the pipeline is likely to finance Moscow’s war effort, so, in the opinion of the defense, it should be held, any Ukrainian, a criminal responsibility for its destruction.
Earlier this month, an Italian court ordered another Ukrainian handing over, which is the 49 -year -old Cosinetus, on suspicion of sabotaging pipelines, to Germany to confront charges.
The pipelines, which were for years transporting Russian gas under the Baltic Sea to Europe, were damaged by huge explosions just months after the large -scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
While some in the West rushed to accuse Russia of carrying out the attack, German investigators now believe that they have identified a Ukrainian cell that includes 5 men and a woman behind the attack.
Upon his arrest, German prosecutors said that Koznitsov used forged identity documents to rent a yacht that was launched from the German city of Rostock to carry out the attacks.
