The Northern Municipal Council referred the proposal to establish a dialysis department at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Health Center to the Public Services and Facilities Committee for study, in preparation for submitting it to the competent authorities.
The proposer, member of the municipal council representing the third district, Muhammad Al-Dosari, explained that the establishment of the department comes in response to the needs of citizens, in light of the steady population increase witnessed by the Northern Governorate, noting that the distance of the current dialysis centers causes great hardship for patients, especially the elderly, who are forced to travel long distances to receive treatment.
Al-Dosari pointed out that implementing the project would relieve pressure on other hospitals and provide quality medical services within the governorate, stressing the need to speed up its completion after a long wait since the fifth legislative term.
For his part, Council Member representing the Ninth District, Abdullah Al Qubaisi, explained that the proposal was previously presented in the last session, before the opening of the dialysis center in Riffa, adding that patients in the Northern Governorate are still moving between governorates to receive dialysis sessions.
He said: “The health center to be established in Salman City is supposed to include a dialysis department, and we hope that the Ministry of Health will clarify its plan in this regard.”
In turn, the President of the Municipal Council, Mr. Shubar Al-Wadaei, stressed the importance of the proposal, calling for the preparation of a detailed study supported by statistics on the numbers of patients and the needs of the region, to ensure that an integrated vision is presented before the recommendation is officially submitted to the concerned authorities.
