The Northern Municipal Council agreed to insist on implementing a project to construct a traffic light parallel to the pedestrian lines between the fourth and fifth roundabouts on Sheikh Hamad Street, opposite Blocks 1205 and 1206, after increasing complaints from residents about the danger of crossing the road in that area.
The applicant, member of the Municipal Council, Jassim Hagras, confirmed that the proposed signal has become necessary to protect lives, after a citizen lost his life while crossing the street, indicating that the project will contribute to reducing traffic accidents and reducing reckless driving, ensuring the safety of road users.
Meanwhile, a member of the Northern Municipal Council, representative of the Ninth District, Abdullah Al Qubaisi, revealed that 99% of requests to construct traffic elevations are rejected by the Traffic Safety Committee, even though they come in response to a real need expressed by people in various regions.
He explained that these requests are not filed in vain, but rather based on demands from citizens who suffer from excessive speed and the recklessness of some drivers, which has caused painful accidents and several deaths, especially in Hamad Town, which is one of the oldest residential areas in the governorate.
He stressed the need to review the current requirements of the Traffic Safety Committee to keep pace with the needs of residential areas and enhance the safety of pedestrians.
