The Moroccan national team achieved a historic achievement by being crowned champion of the 2025 FIFA Youth World Cup, after its well-deserved victory over Argentina with two unanswered goals in the final match hosted by the Julio Martinez Pradanos Stadium in the Chilean capital, Santiago, at dawn on Monday.
The first Arab coronation and the second African coronation
With this achievement, Morocco became the first Arab country to win the world title, and the second African country after Ghana, which won the tournament in 2009. The Moroccan team also became the ninth different team to win the tournament during the last nine editions, which reflects the diversity of competition in youth football.
Zapiri leads Morocco to double victory
Star player Yasser Zaberi opened the scoring early in the 12th minute with a perfect free kick from the edge of the penalty area, before returning in the 29th minute to double the score and give the “Atlas Lions” a comfortable advantage at the end of the first half.
Solid defense and goalkeeper Gomez’s brilliance
In the second half, the Moroccan national team presented an organized defensive performance, as goalkeeper Ibrahim Gomez brilliantly repelled Argentine attacks, most notably a dangerous header from Ian Sobiabre in stoppage time, to keep his net clean until the final whistle.
Argentina loses its second final
This is Argentina’s second loss in the tournament final, after its defeat by Brazil in 1983, although it holds the record for the number of titles with six tournaments. As for Morocco, it entered history from its widest gates, confirming the rise of Arab and African football on the global scene.
