Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Minister of Information, confirmed that today’s unanimous approval by the Shura Council of the amendments to the Press, Printing and Publishing Law, with the start of the fourth session of the sixth legislative term, represents an important step that confirms the constitutional value of freedom of opinion and expression in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and confirms the continuation of the process of legislative development to enhance the high status of the national media in its various means. The Minister of Information extended the highest signs of appreciation and gratitude to Hon. His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the great king of the country, may God protect him and preserve him, for his unlimited support for the march of journalism and media, pointing out that His Majesty’s royal patronage of this sector is the cornerstone of the continuous development that the national media system is witnessing. He stressed that the noble speech that His Majesty the Great King, may God support him, during the opening of the fourth session of the sixth legislative term clearly embodied the royal vision in strengthening The process of building, modernizing and consolidating the state of institutions and law, and consolidating the principles of responsible freedom of expression based on national values, principles and constants. He also expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, for his continued support for journalistic and media work, and his generous directives to the government team to intensify cooperation and coordination with the legislative authority, which contributed to achieving consensus. Positive actions that serve the national interest and support the process of institutional development in the Kingdom. The Minister stated that the new amendments to the Press, Printing and Publishing Law included important axes, most notably the abolition of imprisonment in publishing cases and replacing them with fines, and the regulation of electronic media as one of the main components of the national media system, in addition to strengthening legal and professional guarantees for journalists and media professionals, in order to achieve a balance between freedom Expression and professional responsibility, and supports a more developed and open media environment.
