Kasr Al-Aini announces the establishment of 3 academic departments for subspecialties in general surgery

On Monday, October 14, 2025, the College of Medicine Council was heldSqueeze Aini In the College Council Hall, headed by Dr. Hossam Salah Murad, Dean of the College and Chairman of the Hospitals Board of Directors, and in the presence of the deputies, the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Directors of the Hospitals, the Dean’s advisors, department heads, faculty representatives, and the College Secretary, to discuss a number of educational, research and administrative topics.

Department of General Surgery

The Council reviewed the new strategy for developing the college’s graduate studies regulations, where Dr. Hossam Salah explained that the development adopted by the college in the undergraduate curricula must be matched by a parallel development in the graduate studies regulations in line with the laws regulating medical education and modern academic quality standards.

In this context, Dr. Abdul Majeed Qasim, Vice Dean of the College for Postgraduate Studies and Research, explained that the new direction of the academic structure of the list will be based on three main axes: knowledge, training, and scientific research, while enhancing integration between applied research and societal needs.

The Council approved the establishment of subspecialized departments emanating from the Department of General Surgery, namely: vascular surgery, pediatric surgery, and plastic and burn surgery.

The Council confirmed that the establishment of these departments will be in accordance with clear academic standards that ensure the preservation of the requirements of academic education, research and therapeutic activities, and in a way that supports scientific, organizational and therapeutic development within the new departments.

In this context, the Dean of the College explained that this decision is in line with raising the efficiency of academic and therapeutic performance through broader administrative powers, cooperation in advancing these specialties, and providing broader opportunities for research and specialized training, while maintaining professional and scientific integration between the various branches of surgery.

He stressed that the step represents a model of disciplined modernization that balances development and adherence to established academic controls.

The Council discussed the controls and mechanisms of electronic teaching (online), where Dr. Hossam Salah stressed that the availability of some courses through the e-learning system must be governed by precise scientific controls that are determined through a scientific committee that includes deans of the college and heads of the relevant departments, to ensure compliance with academic laws and standards.

The Council also discussed the speed of completion of the new outpatient clinics building, and Dr. Hossam Salah confirmed that the building represents a qualitative leap in the system of educational, therapeutic and research services at the college, noting that it will include two floors dedicated to scientific research and advanced clinical applications, in line with Cairo University’s approach towards supporting scientific research and linking it to artificial intelligence.
