On Monday afternoon, the Israeli authorities announced the return of all twenty living detainees who were being held in Gaza, after Hamas released them earlier, according to Agence France-Presse.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on the “X” platform a series of posts entitled “Welcome Home,” listing the names of the twenty released detainees.
A few hours later, buses carrying Palestinian prisoners who were released by Israel on Monday began moving towards the Palestinian territories after Hamas handed over all the living Israeli detainees in its possession. Buses carrying Palestinian prisoners also began moving from Ofer Prison towards Beitunia in Ramallah in the West Bank.
Israel released 1,968 prisoners as part of an exchange deal based on the ceasefire agreement, 250 of whom were serving life sentences and high sentences, the majority of whom will be deported.
It also began the release of 1,718 prisoners from Gaza who were arrested during Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, after the attack of October 7, 2023.
