Dr. Ali Fakhr, Fatwa Secretary at the Egyptian Fatwa House, answered a question about ownership of the gold that the wife buys from the household expenses, explaining that the matter depends on the source of the money used for the purchase.

The Fatwa Secretary at the Egyptian Fatwa House explained, during television statements, today, Sunday, that the gold that the wife buys from her independent income or from her own money is considered entirely her property.

Does the gold purchased from the household expenses belong to the wife? The Fatwa Secretary answers

He added that if the wife buys gold from the household expenses provided by the husband, she must ask the husband’s permission before purchasing, so that an agreement can be reached on what can be allocated to buying gold, and what should remain to cover the family’s expenses.

He pointed out that the husband’s explicit consent makes the gold the wife’s property, but if the husband refuses, the money remains his property, and the wife must abide by this out of respect for his right.
