The US Supreme Court begins its new judicial session this week amid widespread anticipation, as it is expected to consider during the next nine months in major cases related to the powers of the American President, gender identity policies, voting rights, and electoral campaigns, files that put the court with a conservative majority at the heart of the legal and political controversy in the country.

Trump’s powers test: customs duties and controversial dismissals

According to a report published by Reuters, one of the most prominent files that the court will discuss is considered, in November, in the legal appeals related to comprehensive customs duties imposed by President Donald Trump during his term, and a lower court had seen that Trump exceeded his powers under the emergency law, while 12 states and a number of companies are demanding the Supreme Court to confirm this ruling.

In January, the court will also deal with the case of Trump’s attempt to dismiss Lisa Cook, a member of the Federal Reserve, in the first legal challenge of its kind since the establishment of the central bank in 1913, and the issue is based on unintended allegations related to real estate fraud, which Cook denies, and considers it a political pretext.

Another federal official dismissal

In December, the judges will listen to pleadings in a separate case related to Trump’s attempt to expel Rebecca Slier, the democratic member of the Federal Trade Committee, as this case represents an opportunity for the conservative current in the court to reconsider the judicial precedents that protect the independence of federal agencies from the president’s authority, in a precedent dating back to 1935.

Identity issues, voting rights, and Vans’s electoral law

Other issues are expected to be seen later related to the laws of the states of Idaho and West Virginia, which sexually prohibits transformers to participate in women’s sports teams in public schools.

On October 15, hearings on a new electoral map will be held in the state of Louisiana, which increased the number of black -majority departments, and analysts believe that the case may give the court an opportunity to reduce the effectiveness of the 1965 voting law, which is one of the most prominent achievements of the civil rights movement.

In another file, the court considers a stabbed by Republican Senator JD Vans against a federal law that limits coordination of financing between political parties and candidates. The appeal was rejected in the minimum courts, but the Supreme Court may decide to review it under the item of freedom of expression.

Unprecedented political and cultural importance

The current court session comes after an exciting judicial summer, which witnessed the court’s support for most of the emergency procedures submitted by the Trump administration despite the protests of the lower courts. The new session is expected to have a direct political impact, especially with the approaching presidential elections for 2026.
