US President Donald Trump commented, at dawn on Monday, on the “No Kings” demonstrations that spread across the US states during the past two days.
Trump said: “I’m not a king. I work hard to make our country great. That’s all. I’m not a king at all.”
Trump added, in statements from aboard Air Force One, that “the demonstrations were very small and ineffective,” expressing his belief that “left-wing extremists financed the demonstrations.”
Earlier Sunday, Trump responded to those demonstrations with satirical videos produced by artificial intelligence, showing Trump wearing a crown.
Demonstrators took to the streets in major cities and small towns across the United States on Saturday to protest presidential actions they see as “tyrannical.”
The new round of protests came as the US government shutdown continued for the third week in a row, and as tensions rose in cities such as Chicago, Illinois, and Portland, Oregon, where the administration’s strict immigration campaigns sparked angry local reactions.
