The Ministry of Health and Population organized a visit by the international Egyptian expert, Dr. Ahmed Mustafa Halawa, consultant organ transplant surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and head of the Kidney Teaching Academy in the United Kingdom, to the Nasser Institute Hospital for Research and Treatment, during the period from 5 to 9 of this October.
This visit comes in implementation of the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, to enhance scientific cooperation and exchange experiences in the field of organ transplantation, with the aim of developing this vital specialty within Egyptian health facilities, raising the efficiency of medical personnel, localizing advanced surgical expertise, and improving the quality of medical services provided to patients.

The visit included organizing specialized workshops at the Nasser Institute, which focused on exchanging practical experiences between the medical teams and the international expert, which contributed to enhancing surgical capabilities in the field of organ transplantation. The visit also included discussing a number of medical cases and performing 28 successful surgical operations for patients from various governorates of the Republic.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, confirmed that the visit included training medical personnel on the latest scientific and surgical methods related to bone health in kidney patients, within the “Bone Health and Chronic Kidney Disease” program. The program aims to provide integrated and sustainable medical care for bone patients with chronic kidney disease, within the framework of the Ministry’s strategy to develop Clinical performance and improving health care quality.
Dr. Peter Wagih, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Therapeutic Affairs, pointed out that Egyptian surgeons have been trained extensively to qualify them to transfer their expertise to their colleagues, which supports the localization of expertise within the Egyptian health system. He also announced the provision of specialized therapeutic services for orthopedic patients with kidney disease on a permanent basis throughout the year, in accordance with the latest international standards.
