Hala Ramzi Fayez, member of the Shura Council and member of the Parliamentary Division delegation, confirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is adopting a comprehensive national approach to confronting climate change, by implementing integrated initiatives and strategies aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, noting that the Kingdom of Bahrain is dealing with the issue of global warming as a global challenge with economic, social and environmental dimensions,
Fayez pointed out that protecting the most vulnerable groups from the repercussions of climate change represents a national priority, and a parliamentary and moral responsibility to ensure climate justice and sustainable development.
This came during Her Excellency’s intervention in the workshop held within the meetings of the Permanent Committee on Sustainable Development, today (Wednesday), within the framework of the work of the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was entitled: “The Effects of Global Warming: A Parliamentary Call to Protect the Most Vulnerable Groups.”
Fayez pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain has launched a number of pioneering national initiatives in the field of confronting the challenges of global warming, most notably the National Strategy for Carbon Neutrality 2060, the program to protect coasts from rising sea levels, and programs to support electricity and water for the most vulnerable groups, in addition to programs for building national capabilities to adapt to environmental risks, and enhancing Parliament’s participation in formulating climate policies that support sustainability.
Ramzi also stressed that the legislative authority believes in its pivotal role in supporting legislative and oversight efforts to design climate policies that take into account social justice and ensure the protection of vulnerable groups, calling on parliaments around the world to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences in adopting innovative and sustainable solutions to confront climate challenges.
Ramzi noted that the legislative authority is keen to continue working and cooperating with international parliaments, to adopt effective strategies that protect the environment, enhance economic and social security, and contribute to ensuring a safe and sustainable future for future generations.
