Today, Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, chaired a meeting of the Central Operations Room at the Ministry’s General Office, to follow up on the implementation of the new prices for petroleum products, review field reports received from the Directorates of Supply and Internal Trade in all governorates, and ensure the stability of markets and the availability of basic goods and products for citizens.
Participating in the meeting were Major General Walid Abu Al-Majd, Deputy Minister, Hossam Al-Jarrahy, Assistant Minister for Oversight Affairs, Ahmed Essam, Assistant Minister for Political Communication and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Kamal, Assistant Minister and Official Spokesman for the Ministry, Sarah Al-Azzazi, Head of the Central Administration for Minister’s Office Affairs, and Magdy Abdel Halim, Head of the Central Administration for Distribution.
Dr. Sherif Farouk confirmed that the central operations room continues its work for the second day in a row and around the clock in coordination with the sub-operations rooms in the supply directorates in the governorates, to follow up on the situation on the ground and deal immediately with any reports or complaints from citizens.
Control prices in the market
The Minister explained that field reports received from the directorates indicate stable conditions in the markets and the availability of basic commodities in sufficient quantities, without monitoring any unjustified increases in prices, stressing that the Ministry’s supervisory agencies have been present in the field since the first hours of implementing the new prices to ensure full compliance and prevent any attempts to exploit citizens.
Dr. Farouk stressed that oversight efforts are not limited to gas stations and butane depots only, but also extend to markets and commercial stores, to ensure that the adjustment in fuel prices is not exploited to raise the prices of food commodities or any other products, stressing that the Ministry will not tolerate violations, and immediate and deterrent legal measures will be taken against anyone proven to be involved in any monopolistic practices or tampering with citizens’ rights.
The Minister also directed the necessity of continuing full coordination with all concerned authorities to ensure the regularity of the circulation of petroleum products and their continued pumping to the markets normally, while intensifying control campaigns during the coming period.
Dr. Sherif Farouk concluded the meeting by emphasizing that the Ministry is continuing to monitor the situation at the republic level, and that the ration control teams are working throughout the day in coordination with the central operations room, to maintain the stability of markets and the availability of goods, and to prevent any practices that harm the rights of citizens.
