In recent years, the Kingdom of Bahrain has witnessed a remarkable increase in the use of electrical structures (scooters _ degrees), which originally began an entertainment for children used in the vicinity of homes without raising any issues. However, this limited use was soon gradually turned into a more spacious phenomenon, with adults entering the line of use and making it a practical means of transition, from the delivery of home orders to use in public roads and main streets.
However, this rapid transition from the “game” to the “means of transportation” was not accompanied by a clear organizational and legislative framework, which led to the emergence of undisciplined behaviors in the use of this method, as it is erected in the main streets, and in many cases without traffic plates or basic safety methods such as the helmet. These practices are a direct threat to the safety of the drivers of these bikes and road users alike.
The General Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior was alerted to this phenomenon and launched organized campaigns to control its use and adhere to traffic requirements, confirming in its statements that the primary goal is to protect lives and ensure public safety before any punitive procedure. This approach embodies the balance between law enforcement and the preservation of the human dimension in dealing with the public, which the ministry has repeatedly demonstrated in various field situations.
Perhaps what distinguishes the performance of traffic men in Bahrain is the combination of packages in the application of regulations and sophistication in humanitarian dealing. I witnessed several accounts of this aspect, including what a friend narrated to me when his car was disrupted by the explosion of its frame on the road, as soon as a traffic patrol stopped and its men gave themselves to insist and without waiting for any charge, and one of them said to him: “You are like my father … do not tire yourself.” These positions embody the true meaning of societal security that balances the duty and human responsibility. The future of transportation is undoubtedly heading towards electricity and friendly vehicles
For an environment, however, this future requires the Bahraini legislator to urgently intervene to develop a clear legal framework that organizes the import and use of these bikes, and is obligated to license them and apply safety standards on them. Early organization prevents these means from turning into uncontrolled phenomena or unsafe alternatives to traditional transport, similar to what happened in some countries with the spread of “tuktuk”.* Captain – editor -in -chief
