Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi decided to award US President Donald Trump the Nile Medal, the highest honor awarded by the Egyptian state, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to supporting peace efforts and defusing conflicts in the region.

A presidential statement explained that awarding the medal comes in honor of “the pivotal role played by President Trump in stopping the war in Gaza,” and his contributions to supporting efforts to achieve stability and enhance the chances of a just and comprehensive settlement in the Middle East.

The Nile Necklace is the highest honor in Egypt, awarded to personalities who have made an exceptional contribution in serving the country or humanity. It was previously awarded to a limited number of international leaders and figures.

This honor comes within the framework of Cairo’s appreciation for the diplomatic efforts that resulted in consolidating the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and opening the way to a new phase of dialogue under Egyptian and international sponsorship.

Trump will arrive this afternoon in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh to participate in a summit focusing on the truce agreement between Israel and Hamas, which is co-hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

According to an official statement from Cairo, about twenty regional and international leaders are expected to attend the summit.
