The name of English defender Mark Jehy has returned to the forefront again in the corridors of Liverpool, after Crystal Palace coach, Oliver Glassner, confirmed that his team captain will not renew his contract and will leave the club next year.
Liverpool was close to including Jehi during the Mercato last summer in a deal worth 35 million pounds, before Palace withdrew in the last moments from the negotiations on the last day of the transfer market.

Speaking before his team’s match against Bournemouth, Glasner said: “I think Mark has already informed us that he will not sign a new contract, so he will leave next year.”
The Austrian coach added that the club tried in various ways to keep its captain: “The club wanted him to continue and made him a new offer, but he said: No, I want to go through a different experience, and this is normal.”
Glassner stressed that the relationship between the two parties remains professional, explaining: “Now we are looking for the best way to deal with the situation and reach the next step properly.”

Glasner’s statements opened the door to clubs interested in the services of the English defender, led by Liverpool, which is experiencing a defensive crisis after Giovanni Leoni’s injury, which ended his season.
The English Premier League champion is looking for a new centre-back to support Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, amid also interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeek, with whom the management has begun preliminary talks.
As Jehi’s contract approaches its end, the competition to include him appears intense between major clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, while Liverpool is considering whether to move to include him in January at a reduced price or wait to include him for free next summer.
